What is FRC?
The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a global high-school robotics program that combines engineering, coding, teamwork, and competition.
Each season, teams design and build a fully functional robot to play a themed game announced in January.
Core Values
FRC isn’t just about building robots — it’s about building people.
- Gracious Professionalism – Compete hard, but respect others.
- Coopertition – Help your competitors; everyone learns and grows.
- STEM in Action – Students take on real-world engineering challenges.
The FRC Season
| Phase | Timeline | What Happens |
|---|---|---|
| Kickoff | Early January | Game reveal + rulebook released |
| Build Season | Jan–Mar | Design, prototype, wire, and code the robot |
| Competition | Mar–Apr | Regionals, playoffs, and championships |
| Off-Season | May–Dec | Training, code refactors, outreach, new tools |
The Game
Each year, FRC introduces a new game with unique field elements and scoring challenges.
Robots are autonomous for 15 seconds, then driver-controlled for the remaining 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
